PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

The Philanthropy and Supporter Relations Manager is responsible for leading, developing and delivering the strategy for our Philanthropy Programmes (Major Gifts & Foundations, Middle Giving and Legacy) and our Supporter Relations team. They will ensure best practices in developing high-value individual giving and supporter care and implement donor development strategies that grow income from our Philanthropy programmes.

Working closely with the Fundraising Director and the fundraising managers they will ensure that we are providing the best supporter experience possible that maximises donor lifetime value.

The Philanthropy and Supporter Relations Manager will support the Fundraising Director in planning, reporting and budgeting and will work closely with stakeholders across the organisation to ensure alignment between the fundraising strategies and our campaigning priorities. The ideal person for this role will be someone who has extensive experience in high value fundraising in individual giving and proven experience in providing programmes to deliver outstanding supporter care. They will have a well-developed understanding of audience, be confident in making decisions based on research and data and will be able to effectively monitor, track and report on performance. They will be confident and experienced in taking a digital first approach to donor engagement and fundraising.

The Philanthropy and Supporter Relations teams are part of the fundraising department which is made up of the following teams Philanthropy, Supporter Relations, Data, Telefundraising & Digital Marketing.

Our vision as a fundraising team is to deliver to these supporters inspiring experiences of Greenpeace and our campaigns to truly engage them. We align our fundraising activity with core Greenpeace campaigns, to ensure we create maximum campaign impact.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy and Leadership

● Drive a digital-first in all supporter engagement activities, ensuring social media, email, marketing automation and other digital channels are used effectively alongside phone and mail.

● Work closely with the Head of Communications and Programme Engagement to deliver the organisational Key Influencer strategy. ● Take part in cross-functional project teams as required.

Philanthropy

● Lead, develop and implement the strategy for all Philanthropy Programmes, including responsibility for income growth and programme expenditure.

● Ensure organisational alignment of all Philanthropy Programmes, including that gift acceptance policies are followed and that the Philanthropy Programmes are providing campaign impact.

● Ensure and enable effective communication between the Philanthropy team and Programme team, to deliver appropriate impactful high-value giving opportunities for donors.

Supporter Relations

● Lead the Supporter Relations team to ensure the delivery of best practice supporter care.

● Lead the development and implementation of the Supporter Relations team strategy, including optimising communication channels.

● Ensure the delivery of effective donor retention strategies in the Supporter Relations team (such as a regular donor supporter saves programme)

● Ensure we are putting the donor at the centre of our supporter care strategies by taking a donor centric approach. Greenpeace is an independent, global environmental campaigning organisation. Our mission is to ensure Earth’s ability to nurture life in all its diversity.

Planning, Budgeting and Reporting

● Budgeting and reporting responsibility for the Philanthropy and Supporter Relations programmes

● Work in collaboration with the Fundraising Director and Fundraising Managers to develop the overall fundraising strategy and budget

● Ensure effective reporting is in place for the Philanthropy and Supporter Relations programmes

● Ensure maximised ROI and lifetime value for areas of responsibility.

Management of Staff

● Provide clear direction, ongoing support and development opportunities for any direct reports

● Ensure the Philanthropy and Supporter Relations teams are performing to meet KPIs

● Conduct regular meetings with all line reports to effectively oversee work and ensure they are on target to meet their various personal and programme objectives

● Conduct regular performance reviews with direct reports

● Assist in preparing annual strategic plans and in refining these down to achievable work-plans

● Manage contractors and volunteers as required.

General

● From time to time undertake any other duties as directed by their manager to contribute to the overall aims and objectives of Greenpeace Aotearoa

● Employees will be expected to perform any duties reasonably requested by the employer

ROLE REQUIREMENTS Knowledge and Skills

● A passion and commitment to Greenpeace's mission and values

● Awareness and understanding of te Tiriti of Waitangi in New Zealand society

● Experience in Major Giving fundraising ● Experience in regular giving fundraising

● Relationship marketing experience

● Awareness of the local fundraising market

● Advanced analysis skills

● Demonstrated strategic thinking and problem-solving skills

● Strong budgeting, forecasting and planning skills

● Experience in digital marketing

● Target focused ● Experience in CRM

● Excellent knowledge of donor-centric communications delivered through multiple channels

● Project management skills ● Leadership and management experience

● High level of attention to detail

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills

● Experience in using Salesforce, or a similar database.

Experience

● At least three years experience in a senior fundraising or marketing management role, preferably in high value giving or donor care

● At least three years experience in high-level budgeting and cost centre management for a fundraising or marketing programme

● 3+ years marketing/fundraising experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

● Primary place of work is Mt Eden, Auckland.

● Flexibility to work outside the normal 8.30am – 5pm work day with occasional planned and unplanned after hours work, including weekends, may be required.

Health and Safety

● Ensure all volunteers and contractors in the team are aware of and adhere to GPAo health and safety policies, processes and procedures

● Participate in health and safety training as required

● Actively identify and report, in a timely manner, any hazards in the work area, or in the work area of the team

● Work with a health and safety representative to put in place appropriate actions to manage the risk(s) created by the identified hazard(s)
