Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra is New Zealand’s full-time professional Metropolitan orchestra, serving the country’s largest and most vibrant city with a comprehensive programme of concerts and education and outreach activities.

In more than 70 mainstage performances annually, the APO presents a full season of symphonic work showcasing many of the world’s finest classical musicians. The APO is also proud to support both New Zealand Opera and the Royal New Zealand Ballet in their Auckland performances, as well as working in partnership with Auckland Arts Festival and Michael Hill International Violin Competition.

Renowned for its innovation, passion and versatility, the APO collaborates with some of New Zealand’s most inventive artists. Through its numerous APO Connecting (education, outreach and community) initiatives the APO offers opportunities to more than 20,000 young people and adults nationwide to participate in music.

More than 250,000 people hear the orchestra live each year, with many thousands more reached through special events, recordings and other media.

Reporting to and working closely alongside the Director of Development, the Development Manager is a key member of the Development team with a focus on raising philanthropic gifts and managing donor relationships and programmes, including the 21st Century Circle.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing an existing portfolio of key relationships on behalf of the APO. Effective prospect research will ensure you are also able to establish and develop relationship with other potential donors. Another key focus will be further developing the Gifts in Wills Programme. The Development Manager will follow best practice of major donor development to advance relationships, including keeping accurate and up to date records of donor interactions on the APO database, Tessitura. 

The ideal candidate for this role will thrive in a tight knit motivated team environment and be an exceptional oral & written communicator with outstanding relationship management skills and strong attention to detail.  

An appreciation of orchestral music is an advantage as you will attend APO mainstage concerts and other events to forge relationships and network with donors.
