About Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC):

With a “Vision to Cure and a Mission to Care”, LBC is dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients, families and whanau throughout New Zealand living with blood cancer and serious blood conditions. We do this by providing personalised patient support programmes, information, advocacy and raising awareness. We also fund targeted research to seek better treatments and potential cures.

LBC receives no direct government funding and relies on other sources of income including peer to peer event fundraising, corporate and individual donations, regular giving and grants to ensure that we can continue to provide our vital support.

About the role:

This is a newly created position as LBC’s South Island focused Business Development Manager. It is an exciting opportunity for a self-starter who can work independently and grow LBC’s revenue and awareness with a focus on developing our business partners.

While Christchurch is the primary geographic area, the BDM will be tasked to explore new business opportunities in the wider Canterbury region and take the lead on developing new business in the South Island. Occasional overnight travel will therefore be required.

The successful candidate will build meaningful partnerships with business leaders, individuals, community groups, corporates and trusts with the primary aim of growing sustainable revenue goals for LBC with those that share our core values and are passionate about the cause.

Key South Island responsibilities include:

  • Growing existing LBC business partnerships
  • Identifying new business, funders and local fundraising opportunities
  • Working with the Business Manager to strategically develop and implement new business partnership plans
  • Collaborating with potential partners & supporters to make LBC the charity of choice for their fundraising events
  • Work closely with the Community and Events Fundraising team to maximise and leverage corporate participation in the LBC events programme
  • Close liaison with LBC staff to maximise opportunities that have been identified. This could include a meeting with a potential bequestor or major donor as part of a wider philanthropic plan
  • Representing LBC at key events. Examples include a school shave as part of our annual Shave for a Cure campaign, a Trust invitation to a grant presentation event
  • Ensure that corporate donors are regularly updated about the progress of the work they’re funding
  • Liaise with the Marketing and Engagement team to ensure communications to partners and prospects are of a high standard and on brand
  • Increasing LBC’s profile locally as the national for purpose organisation supporting patients & families living with blood cancer

What you will bring:

  • Strong relationship management and fundraising skills with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Previous experience building new business opportunities
  • Understanding of fundraising, philanthropy, community engagement from previous roles
  • Ability to work independently while working collaboratively with the wider team to deliver strong and agreed results
  • Confidence to build new relationships
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – you will be meeting new people and presenting to different groups
  • Attention to detail – this will include written proposals, impact reporting and writing to connect with different individuals and groups
  • Target driven, with ability to contribute to growth and innovation.

What we are seeking:

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar fundraising or marketing account management role.
  • Ideally, they will already have a network in the business or philanthropy sectors.
  • They have commercial acumen – an understanding on what’s required to not only build the relationships but to gain a financial return on the investment
  • They are ready to hit the ground running with energy, intuition and determination.
  • Previous use of a CRM is important as we need to capture and share information consistently across the organisation. LBC uses Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack and Marketing Cloud for our communications.
  • This position will suit someone who is self-motivated, well-organised and is outcomes driven.
