The Communications and Fundraising Unit is one of a number of work teams within VSA.  It focuses on growing support for and the profile of VSA. Through its work, the Unit’s primary purpose is to develop and maintain a broad range of funding sources, to resource VSA’s non-government funded activities and to grow the size and scope of support for VSA.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively and cooperatively as a member of the Communications and Fundraising team to achieve VSA’s strategic goals and to grow support for and the profile of VSA. This person will be expected to use initiative and delegated authority appropriately and maintain an open accountability/reporting relationship with the Communications and Fundraising Manager.

The successful applicant will:

• Work with the Communications and Fundraising Manager to develop and implement a fundraising plan as part of VSA’s fundraising strategy, incorporating short and long-term initiatives and appropriate target income figures;
• Take the lead on developing fundraising initiatives to reflect the emphasis on growing support for VSA;
- Implement programmes including: donations, donor acquisition, regular giving, bequests, major gifts, capital campaigns, in-kind donations, applications to trusts and foundations and memberships;
• Manage relationships, and report to donors, trusts and other supporters on the use of their funds;
• Manage the fundraising database to ensure that it meets funding development requirements;
• Liaise with all staff who act as agents of the fundraising process, and in particular with the CEO, Communications and Fundraising Unit, regional programme managers and the Corporate Services Manager;
• Ensure web content relating to fundraising initiatives is accurate and up-to-date;
• Establish and manage business relationships;
• Mobilise and engage volunteers to support fundraising activities;
• Keep up-to-date locally, nationally and internationally with fundraising ideas, trends and information in order to improve VSA’s fundraising practice and supporter engagement;
• Produce analysis and reports to monitor and evaluate campaigns and to inform and shape new initiatives;
• Supervise the work of the Fundraising Assistant;
• Ensure monitoring, analysis and evaluation of work related to this role to shape and inform the Unit’s core business and contribute to VSA’s Monitoring and Learning Framework;
• Cooperate on an open basis with the Communications and Fundraising Manager in regular performance planning and reviews and meet agreed performance requirements;
• Undertake other duties as required from time to time.

In order to meet the changing needs of the organisation, this Position Description may require change from time to time.  Such change may be initiated by the CEO.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced fundraiser with a strong skill base to manage and develop the fundraising and communication activities for the Auckland City Mission.
This varied and innovative role has responsibility for all fundraising and communication functions including donor appeals; e-fundraising, bequests and relationships with trusts, foundations and private individuals.
We are looking for a senior fundraiser with at least 5 years specific fundraising experience, who has the ability to achieve financial targets, build relationships and increase the Mission’s profile. You will be a motivated professional with a high degree of energy and creative thinking and possess strong communication, marketing and public relation skills.
